January 10, 2022: April Geo A. Savulescu RIP --Today, my beloved cousin Geo left us for a world "unde nu este durere, nici întristare, nici suspin, ci viață fără de sfârșit (where there is no pain, no sorrow, no sighing, but endless life)". Those who knew him, or thought they did, were confounded by his broad spectrum of talents and intellectual interests in addition to medicine, which was his primary trade. They dubbed him “painter” and “philosopher”, but his real gift was healing -- not in a celebrity doctor clinic but a humble home office where he deployed his understanding of human nature to help people transcend suffering and pain. Rest in peace, beloved cousin. You will be in my heart forever.

September 30, 2021. Sad tidings from Bucharest -- I just learned with deep sorrow that George Palcu is no longer among us. Married to my first cousin, Ana Mia, George was a beloved father, great husband and dedicated family man. Professionally, he was a respected TV personality, well known in the world of Romanian folk music. Last time we met was on August 18, 2016 at the memorial service held at the Savulescu Family final resting place in the Reînvierea Cemetery in Bucharest. Requiescat in pace -- we'll all miss him

August 18, 2016, Bucharest -- A memorial service was held today at the Savulescu Family final resting place in the Reînvierea Cemetery from Bucharest to acknowledge the successful completion of the 2015 renovation  works -- and to remember those who are not with us any longer. The event was attended by Savu's close relatives and friends from Bucharest, including Geo (Dr. Geo Savulescu), Alex and his children Rodica and Alecu, Adina and Sergiu, George (reknown artist and TV personality George Palcu), Mihai (Savu's best friend from childhood till now), Sabina (George Dragomir's niece) and her husband, Puiu, Marian (Marian Udrea) and Viorica. The religious service was officiated by Fr. Petre Moise. The service was followed by a Parastas lunch at the restaurant Nicoresti.

November 6, 2015, New York and Bucharest -- The renovation of the Savulescu Family last resting place in the Reînvierea Cemetery from Bucharest has been completed in the afternoon of October 24, 2015. The pictures and the short video below briefly tell you the story of our family tomb -- from the original structure built by my Father, Savu A. Savulescu, in the late 1970s, to the marble plaque change after the passing of my Parents, and to the current look, which will be here to stay for the years to come.

Many thanks to my first cousin once removed, Alexandru-Radu Savulescu (Alex) for his continuing dedication to this important undertaking. Alex provided invaluable insight during the design stage, took in situ photographs that were indispensable for finalizing the approach and manufacturing the new ceramic photo plaques, and supervised the project implementation from start through finish.

July 25, 2015, Brașov and Bucharest -- Today the art gallery Casa Rozelor (House of the Roses) from Brașov opened its floor to the photo exhibition Tango Embraces (Îmbrățișări de Tango). Featuring works of the Romanian essayist and photographer Alexandru-Radu Săvulescu, Tango Embraces is the climax of a ten year project spanned by tango parties attended by Alex on venues in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Bucharest. The twenty-four pictures on display were all taken in Bucharest. As you can see from the video July 25, 2015 -- Grand Opening of Alex' photo exhibition Tango Embraces posted at the right, these photos are not just “photographs”. Rather, they provide a uniquely mysterious vision of the world of tango parties (milongas) where tango dancing is the communion of two bodies locked in an embrace that is full of life and sensuality and yet, at the same time, full of innocence – an expression of the magical encounter between gracious femininity and gentlemanly chivalry.

May 19, 2015, Bucharest -- The renovation of Savulescu Family's tomb in the Reinvierea cemetery is nearly completed. My first cousin once removed, Alex, retrieved the new ceramic memorial pictures from the manufacturer and hired an artisan to post them on the monument and engrave the names. Thanks a lot Alex for all your help!

October 23, 2014, Bucharest -- Yesterday I visited my twice removed cousin Ioan Alexandru Savulescu (Alecu) at his piano-bar Blue Note Cafe. Alecu's sister, Rodica and their dad, my once removed cousin Alex Savulescu, were also present and joined the chat. Blue Note Cafe is a nice and quiet place where businessmen, tourists and students from the nearby college Universitate Intercontinental stop for a drink or cup of coffee while listening to good music. The international piano performer Nicky Stevens is in charge of the live entertainment. Karaoke sessions are also organized. My evening at Blue Note Cafe was great and I can't wait to be back!

October 22, 2014, Bucharest -- Today we remembered the memory of our unforgettable friend George Dragomir with a religious service (pomenire) at the Reinvierea cemetery and a traditional meal (parastas), which is customary in such circumstances, at Violeta's. Neither photographs nor videos were recorded, but a tribute to George's memory is paid in this website by using previously recorded images. Dumnezeu sa-l odihneasca!

October 1st, 2014, Bucharest -- The first phase of the renovation works at the Savulescu Family's tomb in the Reinvierea cemetery has been successfully completed. The grave plates and the foundation of the marble cross have been replaced and the encircling gate has been fixed and repainted. The marble plate for the names and pictures of the deceased is also new, but posting the porcelain photographs and engraving the names are part of the second phase, which is scheduled for completion in mid-spring 2015. The project has been directed by my once removed cousin, Alex Savulescu. In addition to hiring and supervising the local contractor, Alex has taken an active and decisive part in the overall design. He is also directly responsible for most of the artistic aspects of this important undertaking.

For more than half a century, the Family Savulescu's tomb, originally built by my Father, Savu A. Savulescu, withstood good and bad times and endured snows, rains, communism and revolutions. After renovation, it'll pay a lasting tribute to our honorable tradition and will serve as a place to pray for the eternal memory of our beloved.

Many thanks, Alex, for all the work you’ve done and for your continuing dedication and commitment to the values and tradition of our family!

September 29, 2014, Bucharest -- Today, my twice removed cousin Rodica Maria Savulescu (Rodica) successfully presented her Ph.D. thesis at the Scoala Doctorala in Stiintele Comunicarii of the Scoala Nationala de Studii Politice si Administrative in Bucharest, Romania. Rodica's graduate research documented and analyzed the profound change in the communications landscape that was caused by the shift from the informational web to an editable one, whereby the old, one-to-many communication model has been replaced with the new, many-to-many paradigm. Congratulations, Rodica! We’re happy to add our heartfelt round of applause to the well-deserved high marks you received from the jury!

November 16, 2011, Bucharest -- An important milestone in the life of our family was reached today in Bucharest: our good friend, George, had his book General, Don't Be Silent! launched at the Bucharest Book Fair. Felicia and I came all the way from New York for this important event, and were joined by family and friends, as you can see from this short video. Congratulations to General George Dragomir for his editorial premiere and, most importantly, for his life-long dedication to the country!
